The British, but Amsterdam-based, apocalyptic masters return with "Plutonium Blonde," an album that contains all the ingredients which has made the band so great over the years; a unique psychedelic/industrial approach, pop-based song structures, relentless experimentalism, and vocalist Edward Ka-Spel's clever cynicism. Going on 28 years, the Legendary Pink Dots don't seem to be losing any steam whatsoever.

Ghost Riders [Remaster] (ROIR)
Recorded live at Minneapolis' Walker Art Center in 1981, Suicide's sometimes tortured intensity belies the positive, even life affirming, content of much of their music, as the anthemic "Dream Baby Dream," and anti-heroin, "Sweet White Lady" will attest. Manic, primitive and undeniably direct, "Ghostriders" is a raw, powerful document of an uncompromising band at the height of their powers.

Recorded live in '82 at NYC's The Kitchen, there is an expected down to earth, amateurish feeling to the Raincoats' performance, but it seems to have more to do with an aversion to the slickness of commercial music than actual musical ability. Longtime favorites of Kurt Cobain and Sonic Youth, the Raincoats were one of the most difficult to categorize bands to come out of London's new wave scene.

An absolutely explosive live set by Dub Trio, culled from two sold out shows last winter at Union Pool in Brooklyn. "Cool Out & Coexist" showcases the heavier side of the band, with in-your-face blasts of hardcore and heavy dub breakdowns. Even disregarding the ROIR connection, it's hard to not draw parallels between this and a Bad Brains show -- all chaotic energy and cocksure execution.

ROIR reissues this classic, 1980 concert album from James Chance and the Contortions, and tacks on a couple of bonus tracks from the vaults. Though recorded in Rotterdam, the performance captured here is a perfect reflection of downtown NYC at the time, where James Brown-inspired funk and free jazz experimentalism is funneled through the raw, unhinged energy of punk.
