Cantaloupe Music is proud to announce the release of "1-Bit Symphony", a follow-up to 2006’s sold-out "1-Bit Music".
While "1-Bit Symphony" is purely electronic in its execution, its contents reflect Perich’s long-standing interest in orchestral composition. Since the release of "1-Bit Music" in 2006, Perich’s compositional work has combined 1-bit audio with acoustic classical instruments, providing insight into the conceptual and aesthetic relationships between physical and electronic sound. With "1-Bit Symphony", Perich brings this insight back into the digital realm, juxtaposing the grand form of a classical symphony with the minimal nature of 1-bit circuitry.

This collaboration between Brooklyn avant-classical percussion virtuosos So Percussion and Baltimore laptop renegades Matmos is as indescribable as one might think, yet it's a perfect pairing. Utilizing sound sources like ceramic platters, pails of water, beer cans and cactus needles,"Treasure State" moves through a wide array of moods and genres, from the melodic exotica-inspired opener to bizarre detours through dark cinematic jazz and music concrete.

An idiosyncratic, yet ultimately very moving, "21st Century Mass" from downtown composer Phil Kline, probably best known for the annual Christmastime boom-box parade he leads throughout the Village. Beautifully engineered, with superb performances from the early and new music vocal group Lionheart, accompanied by the string quartet Ethel, "John the Revelator" is a highly rewarding listen, even for folks who may have an aversion to choral music.

For those of you not able to make it into the shop to purchase one of Tristan Perich's remarkable contraptions (an ingenious little bit of circuitry hand soldered into a jewel box with a headphone jack), you can still sample the NYC-based composer's extraordinarily primitive, patterned based and minimalist music-influenced electronic tracks. These digital pieces are as reductionist as audio can get, but as expressive and kinetic as any polyphonic recording.

Another short but sublime release from New York's Canteloupe label, this time we see Sentieri Selvaggi taking to the stage to perform pieces from two of contemporary classical music's most renowned figures, Gavin Bryars ("Sub Rosa") and Philip Glass' (Facades"). This work shows the immense skill of the Italian group as they give the pieces a new emotional resonance with their ensemble playing.
